My Commitment to Accessibility
“As a neurodivergent business owner myself I understand this can bring a specific set of challenges when working with other people, in a world that is often set up for neurotypicals”
I understand my journey to accessibility is an ongoing one. Detailed below are some of the things I already do in my business plus things that I’m working towards. If you feel I could improve in any way around accessibility or inclusion, please email hello@sammilburndigitalmarketing.com. I take all feedback seriously, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
Social Media
I add alt text to all of my captions for images and videos
I add captions to all videos
I am happy to use voice notes or text in DM’s please - let me know your preference when contacting me.
Website
I add alt text to all images and am working towards updating all old images before Feb 2025.
I avoid using capitals in headers as I know they are not interpreted well by screen readers.
I am working towards having a text-only button on the bottom of each page.
All of my new downloads are available as video with captions, audio and transcripts and I’m working on the same for older materials before Feb 2025.
I am going to be running a website accessibility check before December 2024 to ensure my colour combinations are user friendly and to check for any other accessibility issues that may need addressing.
Meetings and working with clients
At the point of booking a meeting you are given the option to say if you would prefer zoom, zoom with camera off or a phone call.
I use Zoom as it allows captions on the call for anyone who needs them.
I can record the meeting at your request and send a copy to you.
I understand if you need to walk around, take breaks, stim or use other tools during our meeting.
I understand if you need to cancel at the last minute - we all have diverse complicated lives (please just make me aware asap so we can re-arrange)
I understand the issues around rejection-sensitive dysphoria - if this is something that affects you please make me aware if you feel it may be relevant.
I expect the same high standards of accessibility and inclusivity for anyone that works with me (other freelancers)
I understand that people process information in very different ways and I will be happy to answer all questions, and break down processes into steps, or in a way that works best for you.
In Person
Before I attend networking events I carry out due diligence on the event to ensure the event organiser has considered accessibility and inclusion. I may at my discretion leave the event if I feel that this hasn't been considered.
I don’t currently run in-person events but if I were to, I would consult the services of an accessibility and inclusion consultant.
General
As per my inclusion statement I will not tolerate any discrimination that contradicts my values. I look for a wide range of representation and experiences for my podcast guests. I respect peoples pro nouns and lived experiences. I like everyone have subconscious conditioning that I am working toward being more aware of. I understand that as a white, female with ADHD, I have a certain amount of privilege in comparison to others and respect the vast intersections of disabilities across marginalised communities and the global majority.
If you have any feedback in relation to my inclusion or accessibility statements, or how I run my business, please do get in contact with me either by email hello@sammilburndigitalmarketing.com or please feel free to DM me or voice note me on my Instagram www.instagram.com/sammilburndigitalmarketing
